Bluegrass keys increase in Nintendo publication

Nintendo had worked with Bluegrass Promotional Marketing in the past to create key chains that replicated their game controllers. So when they wanted an exact replica of the Wii remote created, Bluegrass was again the natural choice.

Noting that the blue light emitted from the Wii's media slot had become its signature (and the topic of Nintendo blogs everywhere), Bluegrass created the Wii remote replica as a blue-lighted keychain. Because of its popularity, Nintendo used the remote keychain in a variety of ways and has re-ordered it many times. Perhaps its most effective use, though, was to promote Nintendo Power - the magazine for Nintendo enthusiasts.

In the past Nintendo had given away t-shirts as a way to drive new subscriptions to Nintendo Power and, for a number of years, this strategy had been successful. But when they changed premiums to the Wii lighted remote keychain, subscriptions increased substantially - over 50% compared to their best t-shirt backed promotions.
